A flow map connects actions with arrows. Use this printable when a learner skips steps while describing a routine aloud. The free PDF contains six numbered boxes in one clear path, plus spaces for the starting condition and the result.

Describe a familiar routine

Try borrowing a library book. The learner can describe choosing a book, checking it out, recording the return date, reading it, checking its condition and returning it. This example is a discussion prompt; the downloaded boxes are blank for your class's routine. Begin each box with a verb and keep the wording short.

Check the arrows together

Read the completed map from the first box to the last. Ask what must already be true before each action starts. If one box contains two separate actions, split them or explain why they belong together. Cross out an unused final box for a shorter process. A six-box sheet does not have to become six equally sized stages; the number of boxes is simply the available writing space.

Use the final check

The bottom panel asks which missing step would prevent the result. Have a partner follow the arrows and identify any jump that the writer assumed was obvious. This creates a practical revision task before the learner writes a full explanation. The worksheet records one sequence and does not include branching decisions or automatic validation.

Printing and other lesson formats

Download the single US Letter PDF, preview it in portrait orientation and print within your printer's margins. Fill it in with pencil; it is a static document. For other lessons, the existing $5 Graphic Organizer Pack lists KWL questions, comparisons, story maps, vocabulary work and essay planning, with editable Word files where specified. Those formats help organize different kinds of thinking. This new flow map remains a separate free download, and the pack does not claim to generate or check your sequence.

Graphic Organizer Pack

Six listed organizer files: KWL, T-chart, story map, Frayer model, five-W questions and essay planner. PDF and Word formats as listed on the pack page.
